The Alumni Award of Honor is the highest honor awarded by the College of Charleston Alumni Association. It is presented to those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Association and/or to the College. Both alumni and friends of the College are eligible for this award.

2025 Alumni Award of Honor


Demetria Noisette Clemons ‘75

Demetria Noisette Clemons is an educational consultant specializing in data analysis, educational administration and situational leadership. She retired after more than 34 years of experience in education, working as a Principal Specialist for the S.C. Department of Education, and several school districts in South Carolina as Principal, Grant Coordinator, Counselor and Teacher. She is a Trustee Emerita, having served as a member of the College of Charleston Board of Trustees from 2004-2024. Noisette Clemons served as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2018 through 2023. She also served for many years as chair of the Student Affairs Committee.  She was a past member of the College of Charleston Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Noisette Clemons grew up in Charleston, S.C. By age 16, she had already completed all the required courses for early graduation from high school and enrolled at the College. Three years after enrolling, at age 19, she walked across the Cistern. She has a B.S. in Psychology (1975); M.Ed. in Counseling from the Citadel (1978) and extensive coursework in Educational Administration from American University.

For her dedicated service as a member of the Board of Trustees and her exemplary efforts for the betterment of both the Board and the College, in May 2025 Noisette Clemons received the College of Charleston’s Doctor of Humane Letters degree, fifty years after graduating from the institution. She was also awarded the President Theodore Stern Visionary Award (2019) and the IMPACT Award (2015). The Excellence in Collegiate Education and Leadership (ExCel) awards program at the College acknowledged her services to the student community by establishing the Demetria N. Clemons Distinguished Mentoring Award.

Her generosity of time, spirit and wisdom contributed significantly to the past, present and future success of students at the College. She is considered a guiding light to her alma mater, her community and her state.
