Three Perfect Days in Charleston: Jackson Hoel ’22
Coming to Spring Alumni Weekend and A Charleston Affair, May 3-4? We asked alumnus Jackson Hoel ’22, an Account Manager with FORTNA in Atlanta, to share his best advice for planning the perfect weekend in Charleston.

How will you travel to Charleston?
“I will fly in on Friday afternoon and leave Monday morning so I still have Sunday to enjoy the city.”
Where will you stay?
“We’re looking at all the hotels that offer an alumni discount, particularly StayDuvet, which sounds so cool and offers alumni 10% off their nightly rate.”
What’s your itinerary?
“Friday evening, I’ll go to the Alumni Association Annual Meeting from 4-5 pm to meet up with friends. After that, we’ll walk around campus and go out for dinner, probably at Indaco, Vern’s, Melfi’s, Oku, or 167 Raw. Then drinks at the Blind Tiger, Dispensary, Cocktail Club, Bar167, and/or Stars.
Saturday morning, I’ll go to the Schottland Scholars Reunion to see my friends and our professors. Usually, everyone starts to get ready in the afternoon and will meet up for drinks before heading to A Charleston Affair.
Sunday morning, we might do breakfast at Millers All Day or Big Bad Breakfast, or head out to Folly to Lost Dog Café and hang out on the beach if the weather is nice. It is hard to beat a nice day at the beach in early May. The great thing about A Charleston Affair is reconnecting with old friends, and I can’t wait to catch up with everyone.”
Which ticket type do you recommend for A Charleston Affair?
“Most of my crowd will probably do General Admission since the bars have been upgraded to full open bar, beers by Holy City and Revelry, and Frosé by The Co-Op. We’re also considering either 65 George Street VIP for the custom sushi or Towell Library VIP, which are only $25 more than General Admission per ticket and you get into the party a half-hour early.”
