Rudd Jr. Business Person of the Year Award recognizes graduates who have made significant contributions as business leaders to their industries or professions, communities, and the College of Charleston, and who have exhibited great integrity in their business and personal lives. The School of Business selects this award recipient.

2026 Howard F. Rudd Jr. Business Person of the Year Award

Micah Mallace ’07, ’11

Micah is president and CEO of the South Carolina Ports Authority, where he leads one of South Carolina’s most critical economic engines, connecting businesses to global markets, driving job creation and supporting economic development throughout the region.

Micah earned both his bachelor’s in business administration and MBA from the College of Charleston and remains deeply engaged with the College and the School of Business. He serves on the School of Business Board of Governors and regularly contributes his time, expertise and philanthropy. In addition to speaking with students about leadership, discussing opportunities in logistics and supply chain management, and participating as a guest speaker, Micah serves as a mentor, advisor and advocate for students. He has hired College of Charleston graduates, explored internship opportunities, supported recruiting initiatives and encouraged stronger partnerships between employers and the School of Business.

Together with his wife, Katie, he established the Micah and Katie Mallace Faculty and Staff Service Excellence Award for the School of Business. Their generosity reflects an understanding that exceptional educational experiences are made possible by extraordinary people.
